Aikido can benefit everyone to improve health and fitness.
The formal and more spiritual aspect can appeal to certain students, whilst the sports side appeals to others. Its full and natural body movement has aerobic benefits for all.
When practised regularly it will develop a fitter, more supple and stronger body with improved flexibility, reflexes and reactions. You will harmonise with the natural forces of energy and improve your everyday lifestyle.
In a conflict situation, the body, joints, posture and the mind are all vulnerable areas. Aikido is a self-defence based on exploiting the weaknesses of an opponent by turning the opponent's power against them using the exact degree of control required to neutralise their energy without inflicting undue harm or injury.
A training syllabus may be followed for those who wish to progress through the promotion grades.
